My friend sold me on Seongsu with one line: "It's Seoul's Brooklyn — warehouses turned into cafés." What she didn't mention: there is no airport bus to Seongsu, no express train, nothing direct at all. I figured that out at the arrivals hall, pop-up reservation ticking down.
Turns out that's fine. The route is simple once you know the trick — and the trick is that
Seongsu's best airport connection runs through Hongdae, on the opposite side of the city's coolness spectrum. One transfer, same platform level, done.

30-Second Answer
Take the AREX All-Stop Train to Hongik University Station, transfer to Line 2 (direction City Hall / inner circle), and ride about 15 stops to Ttukseom or Seongsu Station. Around 90 minutes total, roughly ₩5,000–5,500 (~$4) with T-money. Which of Seongsu's three stations you pick matters — see the table below.
Seongsu Has 3 Stations — Pick the Right One
The neighborhood is a wide grid of former warehouses, and getting off at the wrong station means a 15–20 minute walk with your luggage. Rough rule of thumb (double-check your exact stop in Naver Map before you leave the airport):
※ Coming from the airport, Line 2 stations (Seongsu/Ttukseom) are the natural arrival points. Seoul Forest Station needs an extra transfer — only worth it if your hotel is right there.
📚 Incheon Airport Series — Going Somewhere Else?
🎸Incheon Airport to Hongdae — you'll pass through it anyway (Exit 9 guide)→ 🕌Incheon Airport to Itaewon — the airport bus is suspended, here's what works→ 🌆Incheon Airport to Gangnam — the one area where the bus beats the train→⚠️ Suitcase + Café Crawl Don't Mix
Seongsu's cafés are small and most have nowhere to park a carry-on. If you're heading there before hotel check-in, use a coin/card locker inside the station (most Seoul subway stations have them near the exits — tap with T-money or card). Drop the bag, then wander free.
Step by Step: Airport → Seongsu
Door to door, budget about 100 minutes from Terminal 1 — Seoul is big, and Seongsu sits on its east side.

AREX All-Stop train from B1 (blue gates)
Skip the orange Express gates — the Express costs ₩13,000, skips your transfer station, and saves you nothing on this route.
Transfer at Hongik University to Line 2 (green)
Follow the green Line 2 signs, direction City Hall (시청) — the inner circle. Line 2 is a loop, so you can't really go "wrong," just long. This way is the short way.
Off at Ttukseom or Seongsu — check your exit number first
About 30 minutes on Line 2. Before the doors open, look up your destination in Naver Map — it tells you the exact exit number, and in a grid neighborhood that saves you two blocks of dragging wheels over brick.
The Exit-Number Trick (Why Locals Never Get Lost)
First time in Korea? Then know this:
Google Maps cannot navigate walking routes in Korea— and nowhere punishes that more than Seongsu, where every red-brick block looks like the last one. The local fix is beautifully simple: Korean addresses are anchored to subway exit numbers. In Naver Map, search your café or hotel and it shows "Seongsu Stn. Exit 3, 210m" — surface at that exact exit and you're already facing the right direction. It's the single habit that makes you move through Seoul like you live here.

Fares, timetables and station guidance are current as of July 2026 and may change. Pop-up venues in Seongsu rotate constantly — always confirm locations in a live map app on the day.

No direct bus, no express shortcut — the one clean route to Seongsu: AREX all-stop to Hongik University, then Line 2. Plus which of Seongsu's 3 stations to pick.
