At the airport information desk I asked the obvious question: "Which train to Gangnam?" The staffer smiled like she'd heard it a thousand times that day and said — "For Gangnam, take the bus."
She was right, and here's the geography nobody explains: the airport train (AREX) runs to northern Seoul — Hongdae, Seoul Station. Gangnam sits south of the river, and no airport rail line goes there directly. Every train option means transfers; the limousine bus rolls straight down the expressway to Gangnam's front door.
But there's a second answer the info desk won't volunteer:
the Line 9 express trick — about ₩5,000 and immune to traffic. Which one is "best" depends on your luggage and your landing time.

30-Second Answer
Big luggage or tired? Limousine bus 6009 — ₩18,000, straight to Sinsa/Gangnam Station/Yangjae, every 15–20 minutes. Traveling light or landing at rush hour? AREX All-Stop to Gimpo Airport, transfer to Line 9 Express, off at Sinnonhyeon (Gangnam's main boulevard) — roughly ₩5,000 and ~75 minutes, no traffic risk.
Bus vs Train vs Taxi — the Honest Table
Prices as of July 2026 (₩1,400 ≈ $1):
※ Friday evening on the expressway can push the bus past 2 hours — that's exactly when the Line 9 route earns its keep. Late-night arrivals: trains and buses wind down around 23:00–23:30; after that, taxi or a limited night bus (check airport.kr).

📚 Incheon Airport Series — Going Somewhere Else?
🎸Incheon Airport to Hongdae — the one-train route (easiest in Seoul)→ 🕌Incheon Airport to Itaewon — the airport bus is suspended, here's what works→ 🏭Incheon Airport to Seongsu — one clean subway route, no bus needed→⚠️ "Gangnam" Is Bigger Than You Think
Gangnam the district stretches for kilometers — COEX, Apgujeong, Garosu-gil and Gangnam Station are all "Gangnam" but far apart. Bus 6009 serves the Gangnam Station / Sinsa / Yangjae corridor. If your hotel is near COEX, different routes serve that side — search your actual hotel in Naver Map first, then pick the bus stop nearest to it, not the one named "Gangnam."
Step by Step: Both Routes
Route A — Limousine Bus 6009 (the luggage-friendly default):
Buy your ticket, find your platform
T1: ticket booths and kiosks sit inside the arrivals hall and at the curb outside; buses board just beyond the doors. T2: the bus terminal is in the basement Transportation Center. Overhead signs list route numbers — look for 6009.
Ride to your stop — luggage goes in the belly
The driver loads suitcases under the bus. Stops announce in Korean and English: Sinsa-dong → Gangnam Station → Yangjae. Track your position live in Naver Map so you're ready two stops early.
Route B — AREX + Line 9 Express (the smart-money route):
AREX All-Stop (blue gates) → get off at Gimpo Airport
About 30 minutes. Don't ride further — Gimpo is where the gold Line 9 begins.
Transfer to Line 9 — board the EXPRESS (급행), not the local
Follow the gold signs. Express trains are marked in red on the platform screens and skip most stations — that's the whole trick. Direction: VHS Medical Center (중앙보훈병원).
Off at Sinnonhyeon or Seonjeongneung
Sinnonhyeon = top of Gangnam Boulevard, one stop's walk from Gangnam Station's nightlife blocks. Express from Gimpo takes roughly 30–35 minutes.
Finding Bus Stops Without Reading Korean
Heads-up for first-timers:
Google Maps won't give you walking or driving directions in Korea, and bus stops are where that bites hardest — "Gangnam Station" has a dozen stops on different corners. The fix: in Naver Map, search route 6009 itself. The app draws the full route, shows every stop by name, and gives live arrival times — including, on the return trip, exactly where to catch the airport-bound bus (airport-bound stops are usually across the street from where you got off). Screenshot your stop name in Korean; worst case, show it to anyone nearby.

Fares, timetables and bus routes are current as of July 2026 and may change — limousine fares in particular were recently adjusted. Confirm prices at the ticket booth or on the official Incheon Airport site before you travel.

Gangnam is the one Seoul area where the ₩18,000 limousine bus beats the train — unless you know the Line 9 express trick (~₩5,000). Both routes, honestly compared.
